Make this a Snowflake Cake by cutting out a paper snowflake pattern. Lay the snowflake gently on top of the cooled cake and sprinkle with powdered sugar. When the snowflake paper is removed, a snowflake stencil design will appear on the cake. Brilliant!
You could also cut out several Frosty Miniflakes for several snowflake designs on the cake.
Use the Snowflake Buttermilk Chocolate recipe (above)
Bake the cake in a circular igloo form with multi-sized novelty cake pans or use two same-size pans to make a long mounded igloo by cutting the two cakes into halves and put together with icing to form the igloo shape.
Place cake on server platter. Cover and smooth out the igloo with white icing. Sprinkle with flaked coconut or frosted sugar.
Use colored frosting to outline the sections of the igloo.
Decorate with colorful gumdrops and other Christmas candies.
Of course you could easily cut the cake into the shape as one solid piece, but it is a fun learning experience for children if you use the Koch Method of arranging triangles into a 6-sided hexagonal snowflake.
Step 1
Cook the brownie or chocolate cakes in rectangular pans.
Step 2
Divide the rectangle into 48 equally shaped triangles.
Step 3
Arrange the triangles into a 6-sided Stellar Star snowflake.
Step 4
Apply your choice of frosting, sprinkle with powdered sugar, coconut or small marshmellows.
