Home-Made Icy Cold Drinks and Stomach-Warming Hot Beverages

 

Home-Made Orange julius

6 oz. can frozen orange juice
1 cup water
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
12 broken ice cubes
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until ice is dissolved.

 

Egg Nog

This recipe uses 1 bottle of cognac - (Not for the kiddies!)

1 dozen eggs
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 cups milk
1 pint heavy whipped cream
1 bottle cognac
powdered cinnamon or nutmeg

Separate egg whites from yolks. Beat yolks in large bowl until light. Add sugar while beating the yolks.

Stir in milk ad cream. Slowly pour brandy into mixture while stirring the mix.

Taste for sweetness, add sugar if necessary.

Cover and let stand in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 hours. Just before serving, beat egg whites until stiff ad mix into the nog. Dust the cinnamon or nutmeg spice over the top and serve.

 

Home-Made Milk Shake

1 cup milk (cold)
1 mashed, ripe banana
1/3 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 cup vanilla ice cream (ice milk or yogurt ice cream)
pinch of salt (optional)

Place all ingredients in blender and mix until smooth.

Recipe variations:

  • substitute equivalent measurements of ripe blueberries, blackberries or strawberries in place of banana
 

Three Fruit Punch

1 1/2 cups grapefruit juice (can substitute any or all: ugli fruit, pomelo, tangelo (tangerine-grapefruit cross), tangerine, lemon or lime juice)
1 1/2 cups orange juice
1 1/2/ cup pineapple juice
1 cup crushed canned pineapple
1 cup sugar 2 cups plain water

Mix and serve over crushed ice. Garnish with sliced fresh fruits.

 

No Alcohol Eggnog

12 eggs 1 pound powdered sugar
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1/4 Cup vanilla
4 Cups evaporated milk
2 Cups half and half

Break eggs into a large bowl. Beat eggs until light in color.

Mix in powdered sugar, salt and vanilla. Add evaporated milk and half and half.

Blend with egg mixture for 30 seconds.

Cover eggnog and put in refrigerator for 24 hours.

Stir and serve with nutmeg.

Makes 9 servings

 

Fresh Ginger Tea

12 thin slices of fresh ginger
1 Tablespoon honey

Pound ginger slices with a rolling pin, place in small saucepan with 3 cups of water and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 20-25 minutes.

Strain out ginger slices and discard. Stir in honey and serve hot.

 

Green Tea with Pomegranate Juice

7 green tea bags
3 cups pomegranate juice
1/2 cup orange juice
2 Tablespoons honey
1 medium orange, thinly sliced

Bring 6 cups water to a boil in large pot. Remove from heat, add tea bags, cover, and steep 5 minutes.

Remove tea bags from pot, and stir in pomegranate juice, orange juice, and honey.

Transfer to teapot and serve immediately, pouring into cups with floating orange slices.

 

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Single serving fresh lemonade.

1 Lemon
1-3 Tablespoons sugar, honey or sugar substitute
1 glass cold water
Ice - crushed, cubed

How simple is that?!

Want more? Get more lemons, ice, sugar...repeat

For hot lemonade:

Add to the juice of 2 lemons: 1 cup boiling water. Sweeten to taste. This can be used to help relieve the discomforts of the common cold.

 

Eggnog - Single Serving

1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons sugar or honey
1 cup rich milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Dash of nutmeg

Beat the egg and sugar together; then beat in the milk and vanilla. Serve cold in tall glasses with a light sprinkling of nutmeg.
